Chewing The Cud - January 13, 2023

What a past few weeks it has been! When 2023 came in, she meant business! Between the weather and life in general, I think we all need to buckle up for this year. I hope someone out there was lunging 2023 before we all decided to hop on.

For the past three weeks, I have only been able to make it to the office once a week due to the weather. I have been snowed in more this year than I have my whole life. Many locals say it is the most snow they have seen in a long time. But when you think about it, we were about due for a nasty winter. And to think, winter really has not even started yet. On my way to town, I drive through drifts taller than my SUV. For me, that is plenty of snow. If it gets any worse, I will have to recruit the dually as my daily driver. But at the end of the day, we needed the moisture something fierce. The hills will appreciate this nice drink! I know my flower beds will!

Since the last new letter, Maddie and I have dug in deep with everything! She is up to her eyeballs in bull sale material, and I have been working on everything from a to z! We are happy to announce that the 2023 Scholarship application is open for all who qualify to apply. If you know if someone in high school or even college that would benefit from our scholarship, please let them know to apply! The Sandhills Cattle Association loves to support our youth and help them achieve their goals!

The next order of business is the first-ever Coyote Calling Contest for the Sandhills Cattle Association. We have gotten numerous entries and excited sponsors. Thank you to our sponsors, T&A Guns, Brownlee Valley Outfitters, Crisp Taxidermy, The Gun Cabinet, Gun Cents, Leth Gun Care, Lee Hauling Services, and many more who donated items! We are excited to have cash prizes, silent auction, and raffle items available for all the contestants. The rules will be announced on January 20th at 7 PM at the Thomas County Fair Grounds, and awards will be held at the same location on January 22nd at 1 PM. We are excited about this competition and hope you help us spread the word!

With bull sale season upon us, check out our social media and website for sale updates and helpful information. We are still running a special on our advertising, so please keep us in mind if you would like to save some cash on advertising.

In other exciting news, the first weights for the EP&C contest have been sent out to those who are competing, and I can officially say that I am pleased with the results. Our weights averaged higher than last year, and considering the drought we are in, I will call that a victory. The 2023 Golf tournament is in the beginning stages of planning. Although I am not much of a golfer, I look forward to witnessing greatness from our members!

Thank you for taking the time to enjoy this update. I hope everyone is well and that 2023 is good to you!
