May has flown by, and I am glad to have things slowing down here a little bit at the office. As most of you know that Elysabeth has resigned and taken a position at the Game, Fish, and Parks Department in Pierre, SD. We are so thankful for Elysabeth's hard work and time here, but we are so happy for her on this new journey with her family in South Dakota! But this also means I have had a lot of things fall on my shoulders while we look for a new Executive Director! We will start holding interviews within the next couple of weeks and hopefully find the perfect fit!
But in the meantime, I will be attending the Ranch Expo in Bassett, NE, on June 15th & 16th and will have a booth in the Munk Building right by the Beef Tent! Be sure to come to visit me anytime during the week if you are attending the Ranch Expo. We also are working with the North Central RC&D on a Lick Tub Challenge during the Ranch Expo. Bring your upcycled lick tub project to the Bassett Ranch Expo to be judged against others for your chance to win cash prizes!
Next up on the Sandhills Cattle Association agenda is our anticipated Steers For Students Program. Our program will take place on June 29th at Husker Meats in Ainsworth, NE. This program was Elysabeth's pride and joy, and I am so excited to continue it for years to come. We have four calves donated to be processed by Blackford Ranch - Matt & Kristina Blackford, Walking X Ranch - Craig & Katie O'Kief, Atkinson Livestock - Wes Kilmurry, and Nielsen Swan Valley Ranch - Greg & Jolee Nielsen. The meat will be donated to Thedford, Valentine, Atkinson, and Gordon Public schools, and we are hoping that students from each school will be able to attend our program and learn about beef processing and all the hard work it takes to get a steak to your table! Also, if you or anyone you know would like to join us for this program to see the process first hand feel free to contact me at the office at any time, and we will be sure to reserve you a spot on June 29th!
